Abirami Kirubarajan

Queen Elizabeth Scholars in Strengthening Health Systems (2017)

Abirami is an undergraduate student in the Bachelor of Health Sciences program. After working extensively with refugee and newcomer groups, her current research interests include how health systems can impact vulnerable populations, as well as how knowledge translation can aid primary care models. Abirami's experiences with marginalized populations in both advocacy and clinical settings have motivated her to further investigate the interplay between policy makers and health systems researchers.

As an outgoing Queen Elizabeth Scholar, she will be travelling to Oxford in the United Kingdom to complete an internship at the OxfordHealth National Health Service Foundation Trust. Through integrating research evidence with health policy, Abirami hopes to develop a stronger understanding of how social determinants of health play a role in different health systems.
