Ben Li

Queen Elizabeth Scholars in Strengthening Health Systems (2016)

At the time of the Forum Fellowship and QE Scholarship, Ben was an undergraduate student in the Bachelor of Health Sciences program specializing in biomedical sciences. As a recipient of the McMaster Health Forum Fellowship, Ben contributed to a number of initiatives, including synthesizing information for evidence briefs that inform stakeholder dialogues and citizen panels, conducting an evaluation of the Rapid Response program, and organizing student-led events on topical health issues.

As an outbound Queen Elizabeth Scholar, Ben travelled to Australia to intern at the New South Wales Ministry of Health, where he learned more about, and contributed to, health policy decision-making and implementation. By having the opportunity to shadow senior government officials and observe the daily processes within government, Ben was able to strengthen his knowledge within areas in which he was particularly interested including analyzing the impact of health policy on populations and finding ways to optimize their ability to improve health outcomes.
