Christopher Galano
Queen Elizabeth Scholars in Strengthening Health Systems (2016)At the time of the QE Scholarship, Christopher was in the Master of Science in Global Health program at McMaster University with a specialization in Global Diseases and Globalization and Development. His interest in global health and health systems stemmed from his previous experiences abroad when he travelled to Urubamba, Peru with MacServe Global, in partnership with Nexos Voluntarios, to help build a library and kitchen at a local elementary school to improve access to education and proper nutrition. He also travelled to China with the International Scholar Laureate Program to learn about the Chinese healthcare system, which combines both Traditional Chinese Medicine and Western medicine.
As an outbound Queen Elizabeth Scholar, Christopher travelled to Australia to intern at the Sax Institute where he hoped to integrate and build upon knowledge from his previous experiences to contribute to health systems strengthening abroad. Christopher was excited to work with the McMaster Health Forum to learn more about, and be involved with, knowledge translation and the use of research evidence to inform policy decision-making.
