Eilish Scallan

At the time of the QE Scholarship, Eilish was a Master of Science student in the in Global Health program at McMaster University, with a specialization in Global Diseases. She previously completed her B.Sc. in Psychology at Queen’s University in Kingston. While completing this degree, Eilish developed an interest in the intersectional nature of health through her engagement with various research labs and community initiatives. Her primary research interests lie in the study of marginalized communities, and the ways in which the many dimensions of an individual’s identity interact with health systems.

As an outbound Queen Elizabeth Scholar, Eilish travelled to Sydney, Australia to conduct research for her thesis on health provision in the prison system. She was based at the Centre for Social Research in Health (CSRH) at the University of New South Wales, specifically studying Hepatitis C treatments within Australian prisons. Eilish hoped to apply her experiences in research to gain unique insight into an often invisible health system, and looked forward to extending this knowledge to the Canadian prison system.
