Peter Malik
Queen Elizabeth Scholars in Strengthening Health Systems (2016)At the time of the QE Scholarship, Peter was an undergraduate student in the Bachelor of Health Sciences program specializing in global health. He explored his interests in global health by organizing events and fundraisers for Dignitas Youth McMaster, where he raised funds for Dignitas International and their efforts in eradicating the global burden of HIV/AIDS. Peter held research appointments at the Juravinski Cancer Centre, the Centre for Minimal Access Surgery, and the Boris Family Centre for Robotic Surgery, where he studied the efficacy of alternate surgical modalities. His research interests involve improving health outcomes and access to equitable health care.
As an outbound Queen Elizabeth Scholar, Peter travelled to Malawi to intern at Malawi's Knowledge Translation Platform (KTPMalawi), a partnership created by the Malawian Ministry of Health and Dignitas International to translate research into contextualized, evidence-based health policy. By bringing together an integrative team of health care providers, researchers, and policy makers from across the country, Peter looked forward to merging his interests in clinical research and knowledge translation strategies by preparing evidence briefs for Malawian policy, namely in implementing Malawi’s HIV prevention program.
